Importance of Language Skills recognised by George Osborne

George OsbornePrestige Network are pleased that the importance of language skills was raised by the chancellor George Osborne in this week’s budget. Osborne announced that the government would be doubling the amount of credit available through UK Trade & Investment (UKTI) to support foreign sales.  He also announced plans to double the tax allowance for investments which will again help to boost overseas trade.

The ATC (Association of Translation Companies) stated that there is a danger that UK companies are not taking the necessary steps to develop the language services they need to succeed in overseas markets and that they will be left behind by rivals.

Many UK companies assume their overseas customer will speak English and only one in five businesses feel that foreign language skills are relevant when building a relationship with a foreign company.  This is something that the government wants to address.

Defying the February Storms – Visits to Legal Clients in the Northwest

Despite stormy conditions in February two of our hardy management team ventured to Liverpool and Manchester to visit clients.  General Manager, Anthony Fleming and Commercial Manager, Meryem Munro spent the day with three of our legal clients.

The first appointment was a visit to a major firm of Solicitors based in Birkenhead.  Meryem said “Our relationship with this client is excellent and well established.  Our plan was a quarterly review meeting followed by an opportunity to establish and to meet with our new point of contact in person.”

Then onto a Legal Firm in Cheadle. This client is a Personal Injury Specialists and had an unusual billing situation to discuss with our team.  Anthony and Meryem took the time to fully understand the details provided, after some thought they were able to suggest a creative solution that delighted the client.

Finally, back into Manchester to another well-established Legal Firm. The outline for this meeting was to ensure we fully understood all our client’s language requirements and to recommend some cost saving solutions.

Anthony and Meryem agreed that Prestige Network had done an excellent days work with three important legal clients and that the Northwest was very welcoming. Anthony was born in the North of England in Yorkshire.

Prestige Network Celebrates Major Arabic interpreting contract for Oxford-based Business School

Jackie Benn, sales consultant at Prestige NetworkThatcham-based family business language services company Prestige Network is celebrating a major contract delivering Arabic interpreting to a group of 40 executive business students at an Oxford-based Business School.

Classroom interpreting, conference interpreting, tour guide interpreting and Face-to-Face interpreting, were all part of the package delivered by Prestige Network’s Arabic interpreters.

Jackie Benn, sales consultant at Prestige Network, said: “The Business School is one of Europe’s youngest and most entrepreneurial business schools with a reputation for innovative business education. The school is dedicated to developing a new generation of business leaders and entrepreneurs.

“The school Googled us, found us online and stayed with us from their first phone call. They were delighted with the quality of interpreters and the integration with the teaching staff and executive students and indeed were very happy with the whole operation.”

The contract, worth £26,000, was delivered over a 10-day period in May 2013. It was an intrinsic part of the school’s delivery of English business acumen to the business executives, from the United Arab Emirates. This Business School is highly ranked worldwide in the Financial Times’ combined ranking of Executive Education programmes.

Jackie said: “There are up to 20 groups of such business executives coming to the college each year and I’m hoping that this is going to be Prestige Network’s first step on the ladder towards a long and successful relationship with the school The Business School is a world leader in business education and we are very proud to be a part of that.”

Prestige Network employs more than 20 staff and 5,000 specialist language freelancers based all over the UK, who speak and translate more than 200 languages.  Prestige Network caters for language and communications needs in the commercial and public sector (including the NHS, local government departments, charities, the police and other public organisations).

Other recent wins for Prestige Network in the last financial year have been:

  • A new contract to provide Face-to-Face Interpreting at a major Thames Valley hospital.
  • To provide Arabic interpreting to a big British corporate company in the oil and gas industry for eight months in 2012-2013. The contract was the first that Prestige Network had delivered to this corporate organisation, which operates globally, although the language company has done other work for the oil and gas industry.
  • A coveted two-year contract to provide British Sign Language (BSL) and spoken language services to the Department for Work and Pensions. It follows Prestige Network’s successful place on a framework agreement by Buying Solutions, the national procurement partner for UK public services. The contract is for Face-to-Face Interpreting services for spoken languages and BSL – 24/7, 365 days a year.
